Managing Benefits shows you how to move from a “magic will now happen” approach to a well thought out, intentionally actioned, and successfully delivered approach to benefits realisation. It will allow you to take an organisational view to ensure that all initiatives add up to a maximum return and realisation of strategies over the longer term.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the Foundation course, you will learn:

  • Definitions, scope and objectives of benefits management, barriers to its effective practice, and the key success characteristics.
  • Principles upon which successful approaches to benefits management are based.
  • Five practices contained within the Benefits Management Cycle and relevant techniques applicable to each practice.
  • Scope of key roles and responsibilities for benefits management and the typical contents of the main benefits management documentation.
  • Approaches to implementation and the factors to consider in sustaining progress.
  • Planning the implementation of benefits management, select appropriate strategies to sustain and measure progress.
  • Selecting and adapt principles, practices and techniques to suit different organizational environments.
  • Identifying activities that should be undertaken during each of the practices of the Benefits Management Cycle together with the accountabilities and responsibilities of each of the defined roles.
  • Evaluating examples of benefits management information (documents).
  • Analysing the solutions adopted in relation to a given scenario.
  • Be well prepared for the Foundation and Practitioner exam.

Managing Benefits™ Combined Details

Our training is run with the purposes of learning the theory, preparing you for the exam, and applying in the real world. The sessions are a mixture of theory and discussion and practical group-based learning involving Post-it notes, markers, and flip chart paper. No laptops are required, all learning resources are supplied.

Our trainers apply practical examples from their decades of experience as hands-on Benefits Managers and adjust the course delivery to meet the needs of the attendees.

  • Portfolio, Programme and Project staff responsible for defining, tracking, and realising benefits
  • Organisational staff who wish to set up a Benefits Management practice
  • Those involved in the governance with a particular emphasis on Benefits
  • Those working in the planning of organisational change, strategy, and benefits realisation
  • Those advising or providing consulting advice on Benefits practice

No prerequisite is required for attendance on the Combined course, but any Benefits Management exposure is an advantage. Our thorough pre-course work also ensures you are ready for learning.

3 days for Foundation and Practitioner (21 hours) – Typically 8:30 am for an 8:45 am start and a 5:00 pm finish with 1 hour for lunch and short morning and afternoon tea breaks. In addition, we suggest at least 10 hours of pre-course work and there is 1-2 hours of homework each night.

Once you register for the course you are sent the “Managing Benefits” manual, pre-course exercises and our MB Desk Reference. At the course, you are given a workbook that contains copies of all the slides, extensive notes, exam practice, exercises, and sample exams from APMG.
